Why did you choose and how did you get into the career of a foreign language teacher?
I loved my French and Spanish classes in Brussels and idolized my teachers and told myself I wanted to be like them when I grow up.
Do you have any experience living abroad?
I was a full-time university student in Brussels, Belgium. After getting my master’s in 2008, I moved to Brno.
What do you enjoy most about being a teacher?
Listening to my students’ stories and living vicariously through them.
In what ways does working with students inspire you?
I love learning languages myself, so I see myself in every single one of them. And it also gives me ideas on how to be a better language learner myself. I am their teacher, but I also love learning with and from them.
Why did you choose the language you teach?
I guess because English is my strongest language, bar none. And because I like teaching words, English is the perfect language for me. It has a very rich vocab - no other language comes close.
You are a native speaker from another country, why did you choose the Czech Republic?
I think Czechia chose me. I was offered a teaching job here immediately after finishing my studies in Belgium. I loved it so much and decided to stay for 17 years… and counting!
If you could live in another country, which one would you choose and why?
Belgium. I left a piece of my heart there.
